Up-Front Inspection Fee: $150

This allows us to look at the drive and evaluate the status of the drive. The deliverable from this process is a phone call or an email, where we may say:

  1. The hard drive is readable - here are instructions on how to read it; or
  2. The hard drive is not yet readable, but may be readable after a relatively non-invasive special step; or
  3. The hard drive is readable but does not contain the required information; or
  4. The hard drive is not readable, but data may be recovered using an invasive procedure.

Packing Instructions

Express shipping is included in the Up-Front Inspection Fee. After you have contacted one of Transparen's representatives and completed all the paperwork, you will need to follow these specific packing instructions to ensure that your hard drive arrives at our facilities intact.

  1. Remove hard drive and do not detach any wires, brackets, or accessories unless otherwise instructed. For instructions on how to remove a hard drive, search for your make and model in Google.

  2. Place the hard drive in an anti-static bag. If you do not have an anti-static bag, use a similar protective material, such as bubble-wrap or styrofoam wrap.

  3. Place the hard drive in the centre of a box with at least 3 inches of crumpled newspaper surrounding all 6 sides. Take care to use only crumpled paper, as packing styrofoam can generate considerable static during the shipping process, which can further damage the hard drive.

  4. Seal the box with tape, and wait for our courier to arrive.

Estimate

88% of all hard drive data recovery situations are actually very easy to recover (even a do-it-yourselfer could repair them in a basement), and can be done for less than $400. We concentrate on the remaining 12% - the drives that other data recovery companies spit out as unrecoverable. From these drives, our data recovery success rate is 90%.

There is a $150 up-front non-refundable charge to try our service - this does not reflect the true cost of an evaluation, but simply exists to ensure that clients who use our service are really committed to high quality data recovery.

Once we have completed the physical assessment, it is often possible to make a fixed price estimate.

Non-Invasive Recovery Procedures

In relatively simple recovery procedures, the next step involves a scan of the hard drive using special diagnostic software, or possibly a replacement of the circuit board controlling the hard drive. Call for price quotation. Or, try our free online estimation tool.

DVDs and CDs

Transparen's nominal charge is $225 for recovery of data from damaged, scratched, or warped CDs or DVDs.

Floppy Disks

Transparen charges $50 to recover data from floppy disks.

Drives Not Recognized by BIOS

Transparen utilizes special hardware to diagnose and fix most hard drive BIOS issues.

Drives Not Spinning Up

Moving platters requires special procedures, and Transparen communicates what is happening to your drive in these procedures, including the risks and potential rewards, better than most companies.

Operating System Not Loading

If the drive is recognized by the bios, but unrecognizable by the operating system, and, for example, if Windows will not load while the drive is attached, then Transparen can recover the data using special software.
